RAF Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside French aircraft in a combined operation targeting an subterranean weapons facility in Syria operated by the Islamic State group (IS), per a report from the British defence ministry.
The location, pinpointed through intelligence, was assessed as storing arms and explosives, the release indicated, and was located in mountainous terrain just above Palmyra in central Syria.
"Our aircraft used Paveway IV guided bombs to strike a several access tunnels leading to the site... initial indications indicate the strike was effective," the ministry announced.
There was no evidence of any civilian casualties in the strike on Saturday evening and each participating jet made a safe return, the defence officials confirmed.
The Typhoon FGR4s were assisted by a Voyager tanker plane.
